Here are a few photos from Charlie's hike around Lake Georgetown, Texas on the Goodwater Trail (all in one day) in April 2011. Click on one of the small images below to see it full size.

The Goodwater trail is a 26-mile loop so we started at first light. Janice hiked the first mile with Charlie. The first view of Lake Georgetown from the trail. Looking West towards Tejas Park where Janice would meet Charlie in ten miles.
The trail passes some really old buildings. In some years the lake level is so low that trees grow far out from the normal shoreline. In some places the trail was steep and rocky. Other parts of the trail were flat and open.
A great view looking East from one of the trail's highest points. This slope was really steep. Janice met Charlie at Tejas Park. Charlie was able to refill his backpack before the next stage.
The bridge at Tejas Park is the Westernmost point on the hike. A creek just after Tejas Park. The story of the "Burned Rock Midden". The first few miles after Tejas Park were flat and boring.
When the lake is full, the level is a lot higher than it was when we were there. The trail just before Russell Park, where Janice met Charlie again. Leaving Russell Park, still ten miles to go. Mile marker 18 needs some work.
Between Russell Park and Jim Hogg Park. Janice met Charlie one more time, at Jim Hogg Park. Looking due South to the point where we had seen the first view of the lake early in the morning. The first view of the dam at the Eastern end of the lake.
The story of another midden. The dam is over a mile long and no longer open to vehicles. Lake Georgetown dam. View of Cedar Breaks Park from the dam, Janice is over there waving.
The San Gabriel River downstream of the dam, and the new road bridge. Looking West up the lake, from the dam. Almost there. 26 miles: there's no way to smile when everything hurts.
