Here are a few photos from our trip to Yellowstone National Park, in Wyoming, in September 2011. Click on one of the small images below to see it full size.

The Norris geyser basin near the West entrance to Yellowstone. Boardwalks let you get very close to the geysers, but safely. Algae living in the hot springs create amazing colors. These pools are deep so the water has a beautiful blue color.
This bison decided the road was the most convenient way to get where he was going. He walked right by our car and thankfully kept right on walking. The hot springs terraces at Mammoth. Janice at one of the enormous hot pools at Mammoth.
The terraces at Mammoth. The boardwalks give you a great view of the terraces. Many of the springs at Mammoth are dormant, others are clearly flowing. The "White Elephant" at Mammoth.
There used to be three petrified trees in the Tower-Roosevelt area, but two were destroyed before the park was established. Unusual rock formations in the Tower-Roosevelt area. We hiked both rims of the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone River. Looking downstream from Lower Falls.
Along the trail, one creek disappears into this hole.... .... and emerges as this beautiful waterfall. Yellowstone River between Upper Falls and Lower Falls. The hiking trail crosses this bridge that was originally built for the road.
Someone clearly counted the rings on this dead tree. This amazing steel stairway leads 500 feet down "Uncle Tom's Trail" into the canyon. "Uncle Tom's Trail" is pretty steep. Lower Falls from the bottom of "Uncle Tom's Trail".
The classic view of Lower Falls and the Grand Canyon, from Artist Point. Not long before erosion on the rim gets the better of this tree. Amazing cracks in the mud around a spring at "Mud Volcano". "Sulphur Cauldron".
We hiked up to this natural bridge. The view from behind the natural bridge. Janice behind the natural bridge. Hot spring at West Thumb geyser basin.
These two springs at West Thumb geyser basin are actually in the lake. "Fishing Cone" at West Thumb geyser basin. A perfectly-round hot spring at West Thumb geyser basin. West Thumb geyser basin.
This pool at West Thumb geyser basin must be very deep, judging by the color of the water. Old Faithful seen from Observation Point, before it erupted. Old Faithful erupting, seen from Observation Point. Geysers in Upper Geyser Basin, near Old Faithful.
"Heart Spring" in Upper Geyser Basin. Amazing algae colors in Upper Geyser Basin. At Lower Geyser Basin, people on the boardwalk are backlit by the steam. This spring in Lower Geyser Basin has created a large crater.
"Fountain Paint Pot". At Fountain Paint Pot, boiling water flows directly into the Firehole River. Erupting geyser at Fountain Paint Pot. Bubbling mud at Fountain Paint Pot.
